Final Post

Hello everyone,  We've reached the end of the "Current Issues in Teaching" semester, and this is my final blog post. This course was educational and beneficial for me as a teacher candidate in the technological age. We learned techniques for language teaching through topics like corpus learning, flipped learning, AR, VR, and AI-based learning. My favorite assignment was creating AI-integrated lesson plans, as we designed many lesson plans throughout the semester, making this assignment enjoyable. My least favorite assignment was creating corpus-based teaching materials. I want to tell students taking this course that they will love it if they have a positive attitude towards it. This course greatly contributed to my development as a teacher and will help me become a more conscious and effective technology user in the future. Looking forward to seeing you here again.  Best wishes.

AI Integrated Lesson Plan

Hello everyone,  This week's assignment is to create an AI-integrated lesson plan and examine how AI can be used in language teaching. For this assignment, we were divided into groups. We prepared a detailed lesson plan and adapted it to the Assure Model. AI can be effectively used in language teaching in writing, speaking, vocabulary instruction, and feedback processes. There are many advantages to using AI in language classrooms. Personalizing learning for students and providing opportunities for practice outside of class are the most important benefits. Our lesson plan includes student-centered activities that ensure active student participation. Here is  assignment.

Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) Technologies

Hello everyone, this week's assignment involved exploring how Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies can be used in language teaching. AR allows for the addition of digital content (images, videos, text, etc.) to the real world. VR, on the other hand, transports students into a completely virtual environment, offering experiences similar to real life. These two technologies make learning in language classes more engaging. AR and VR have many advantages in language classrooms. They increase student motivation, provide environments similar to real-life situations, and encourage active participation. Students not only learn the language but also have the opportunity to use it. However, there are also some disadvantages. Technical problems, lack of equipment, and internet connection issues may occur. In this assignment, my friends and I aimed to have students use the target language by using visual and virtual content. I believe that AR and VR content will be use...

Flipped Classroom Learning

Hello, This week we have an assignment, and it is about creating a flipped classroom video. A flipped classroom is a learning model where students study the topic before coming to class by watching videos or reading short materials. In class, they do practice the topic. This method is useful for language learning because class time can focus on speaking and interaction. Students can also watch the video at their own speed and repeat the parts they don’t understand. However, there are some disadvantages. If students do not watch the video, the lesson cannot continue as planned. Also, students who have internet or device problems may have difficulty. For this assignment, we prepared a short flipped classroom video about a language topic. First, we chose the topic "will and be going to".  We shared the work between us. The assignment was a useful and enjoyable experience for us. Here is our  assignment  .

CORPUS-BASED MATERIALS TASK

Hello everyone. This week, I have a new assignment for your Current Issues in Teaching class. The assignment is creating an AI-enhanced corpus-based teaching material along with a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model for the target group of EFL learners enrolled in a high school in Turkey. The assignment required us to choose a unit from the Prep School textbook and prepare a lesson plan that includes students' use of Corpus and AI. We chose Unit 4 from the book and chose Will/Be going to and the present continuous as the target forms. We chose COCA as the online corpus tool for the lesson plan. We created a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model we had previously learned. The ASSURE model analyzes student characteristics. The objective of the lesson is determined based on the ABCD model. The materials to be used are determined. These are used throughout the lesson, and student participation is encouraged. Finally, the degree to which the objective has been achieved is evaluated. ...

Introductory Post

Hello everyone after a long break. I hope you're all well. We'll be back together again soon. As you may remember, I'm Bahar. I'm now a third-year English teacher. On my blog, I'll keep you updated on what we'll be doing in this semester's "Current Issues in Teaching" course. The aim of this course is to develop future teachers into technologically competent individuals in this technological age. Teacher candidates will learn about newly available technologies in English language teaching. They will learn the use, productivity, and usefulness of artificial intelligence in education. Students will learn how to create and use certain technological tools in education. Students will be taught how to provide an integrated education with technology and media. We'll be working on a lot of projects this semester. I'll share them with you. Stay tuned for the next blog. Best wishes.

Instructional Technologies

Hello everyone, in this post I would like to talk to you about the Instructional Technologies course we took this semester and express my opinions. The aim of this course is to provide technological skills to future teacher candidates. Technology has now become the center of everything all over the world. This course was very useful in keeping up with the times and providing our students with these skills. Since we are language teachers, we have become interested in integrating technology into language teaching. This course was a skill-based course rather than a memorization-based course. We did a lot of activities. Course grades were given according to the technological tasks we did throughout the semester. I discovered the blogger application thanks to this course and I will continue to use this application. In this lesson, we learned about infographic, pictochart, magic school and many other applications. Some of these applications are very helpful for the teacher to create mat...
